A network that changed the evenings
On 12 November 1884, Timișoara’s electric street-lighting network began operating with 731 incandescent lamps. The number tells us more than a slogan about a “first bulb”: this was street infrastructure. Municipal documentation frames the first-city claim in relation to continental Europe. We retain that qualification instead of turning it into a world record. [1]
What an 1880 photograph cannot show
The archive photograph selected for this story shows Liberty Square in 1880. It predates the 1884 network and does not show the inauguration of electric lighting. That difference makes it useful: it offers a view of the urban setting before the change. The photograph documents a place and date; the text explains the later event without pretending that the image captures it.
Building an honest comparison
Choose a frame showing both the square and its surrounding buildings. For your photograph today, try two moments: before sunset and after the lights come on. This is a creative suggestion, not a reconstruction of the evening in 1884. In the creator, the old photograph’s date remains visible even when you edit the wording. Change the hook, pace and style, but do not make an 1880 image appear to document an event four years later.
An idea for a walk and Reel
Start in Liberty Square and notice how the space between buildings is lit today. We do not pin a “first bulb”, as this article does not document such a location. In the creator you can combine the old image with your own wording about the 731 lamps. Keep the photograph’s date by the image and the event’s date in the text: a short clip can be engaging without confusing the two moments.
